Established in response to growing enrollment in 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s nursing and health careers programs and the need for a highly educated health care workforce. This fund is supported with donations from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, The Sam J. Frankino Foundation, Katherine T. O’Neill, Park Foundation, Sherwick Fund of The Cleveland Foundation, and numerous individuals and businesses.

Criteria

• Admitted to 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s Nursing program or another health career program.
• Meets minimum GPA requirements for program.
• Applicant must be in good standing.

Established in 2009 to support the advancement of individuals in our community. The Bowens have been longtime partners of 911±¬ÁÏÍø, with Gail serving as a 911±¬ÁÏÍø Foundation Board director. The Bowen family is committed to our community and are active in several foundations that support education, social services and the arts. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years.

Criteria

• Pursuing a degree or certificate in any 911±¬ÁÏÍø health careers program, including nursing.

Established in memory of David Duncan, a Cleveland public school graduate who survived a vicious attack en route to class in the 11th grade. Cleveland residents responded by donating to a college fund that enabled Duncan to earn a bachelor’s degree. He went on to earn master’s and doctorate degrees and enjoyed a successful career as a teacher and administrator. He taught biology at 911±¬ÁÏÍø for more than a decade.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Sophomore academic standing.
• City of Cleveland resident.
• Pursuing a degree or certificate in any 911±¬ÁÏÍø health careers program, including nursing.

Established in 2017 to recognize Morton G. Epstein for his numerous contributions to 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Foundation and the Greater Cleveland community. In his 14 years of service as a Foundation Board director, Epstein was dedicated to ensuring educational access and degree completion. This fund provides financial assistance for students who might not otherwise be able to access or continue their college education.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.75 GPA.
• Cuyahoga County resident.
• At least one year of coursework completed.
• Preference given to students enrolled in a health careers program.

Established in memory of William A. Falkenstein Jr.

Criteria

• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Enrolled in 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s Nursing or Surgical Technology program.
• At least two semesters of coursework completed.

Established through a generous grant from the David and Inez Myers Foundation, this scholarship is designed to meet the needs of students in various health career occupations. Awards may also be made for educational expenses such as child care, temporary transportation costs, tutoring and other situations that may restrict a student’s access to education.

Criteria

• Enrolled in a Health Careers Institute program.

As a 911±¬ÁÏÍø alumna and advocate for higher education, Daphne Johnson left a lasting legacy through the support she gave to her husband, Alex Johnson, in his role as 911±¬ÁÏÍø president. Her full life, passion, talents and love for animals will continue through the work of students who receive assistance through the scholarship fund established in her name.

• Admitted into 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s Veterinary Technology program.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Established in memory of Karen Kress‐Burke, clinical instructor in respiratory therapy at 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s Western Campus. See Respiratory Care program manager for application. Recipients selected following interview by special committee.

As part of its mission, MetroHealth not only takes care of the ill and injured — it also focuses on “Leading the way to a healthier you and a healthier community through service, teaching, discovery and teamwork.” In an effort to extend that mission, this fund supports MetroHealth employees and their family members as well as residents of the neighborhoods surrounding its Main Campus Medical Center. This scholarship is renewable for one year as long as criteria are met.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
• Enrolled in a workforce training program that leads to a certificate or credential in a high-demand field.
• Preference given to MetroHealth employees and their family members, students who reside in MetroHealth’s core communities and students enrolled in a 911±¬ÁÏÍø health careers program.
• Develop and sign an Academic Plan (credit students only).

Established to recognize Gloria Moosmann’s dedication and commitment to ensuring educational access for students who face financial barriers while pursuing a 911±¬ÁÏÍø education. In a career spanning more than 45 years, Moosmann has the distinction of having worked with all four College presidents. She led the first major gifts campaign of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Foundation. Under her leadership, the Foundation experienced significant growth in program development and enhancement as well as in student scholarships.

Established to recognize the critical role that physical and occupational therapy assistants play in patient support and recovery. Two annual awards: one to a student in 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s Physical Therapist Assisting Technology program and one to a student in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology program.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.7 GPA.
• Demonstrated financial need.
• Studying physical or occupational therapy assisting at 911±¬ÁÏÍø.

Established by the Cleveland Academy of Veterinary Medicine, this fund is supported by numerous donations including gifts made by the Cleveland Academy of Veterinary Medicine and the Medina Kennel Club Inc.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.7 GPA since Veterinary Technology program admission.
• One or two semesters of Vet Tech coursework completed.

Established in 1998 by Al and Jan Widiger to recognize the increasing need for skilled health professionals and make a lasting difference by helping students pursue education in related fields. Recipients receive a minimum of $250.

Criteria

• Minimum 2.7 GPA with C grades or higher
• At least 15 college credits accumulated.
• Enrolled in any 911±¬ÁÏÍø health careers program, including nursing, with interest in pursuing an advanced degree.
